An amazing local dip created and shared by long time best friends.
In the cozy lobby Britt and Sara, enjoys a hot summer day.
How did your company get started?
Sara and I met in 9th grade and immediately became best friends. We both love cooking, hosting and entertaining but after we had kids there was less and less time to spend on prep, cooking and cleaning. Our long multi-course dinners turned into snacking and incomplete conversations while we tried to catch up while also keeping up with our small children. We would always make pickle dip when we got together and started thinking, WHAT IF WE STARTED A SMALL BUSINESS BASED ON THIS PICKLE DIP?!?!? Here we are 20 years later.
We launched Darling Pickle Dips the summer of 2017 at 3 Minneapolis farmers markets and have been growing ever since.
Can you tell us a bit more about your product?
Darling Pickle Dips are a tangy blend of crunchy dill pickles, cream cheese and blended white beans. They can be used as a dip for your favorite veggies and salty snacks, smeared onto sandwiches and burgers or incorporated into your favorite recipes as a flavor-boosting ingredient. We offer 3 different flavors: Original Dill Pickle, Dill Pickle with White Cheddar & Mustard and Spicy Pickle.
How has COVID-19 impacted your company?
Initially we experienced a bit of a slowdown while non-perishable sales skyrocketed. Thankfully much of that has recovered as buying habits have slowly returned to normal. Not being able to do in-store samplings has somewhat limited our ability to attract new customers, but our local fans are SO loyal and we are very thankful for that.
As a local brand, what are some of the greatest challenges you face?
In general I think many small businesses work with small budgets, slim margins and limited abilities to market and sell their products. These are all facets that we deal with on the daily. We are constantly asking ourselves what we can do to recognize the greatest results.
What do you hope to achieve for your company?
We would like to see Darling Pickle Dips distribution grow outside of the Midwest and also begin working with more local farms/supply chains for some of our ingredients.
What are some of your favorite local brands?
We have so many good ones in our great state!! We love Superior Switchel, Seven Sundays, Thumbs Cookies, Folly Coffee, 3 Lonetti Sisters. There are too many to count!
Where can your product be found and where can I learn more?
